Chris Webber, a rare blend of strength, speed, size and skill, spent two heralded seasons at the University of Michigan that signaled a great future in the NBA. Webber entered the 1993 NBA Draft after his sophomore season and has remained a focus of attention.

Webber had an outstanding season in leading the Bullets to their first playoff berth since 1988. He led the team with 20.1 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.90 blocks per game and was second on the club with 4.6 assists and 1.69 steals per game and a field goal percentage of .518. He ranked sixth in the NBA in rebounding, 14th in shotblocking, 16th in field goal percentage and 21st in scoring and steals...He was selected for the All-Star Game for the first time in his career and had two points and four rebounds in 14 minutes...Webber shot 5-for-7 in the second half, including 2-for-3 on three-pointers, to help nail down the Bullets' 85-81 season-ending win at Cleveland on April 20 that clinched the playoff berth. He finished that game with 23 points and 17 rebounds...He scored a season-high 34 points, with 13 rebounds, 5 assists and a career-high 7 blocks, in a 115-110 double overtime loss to the Seattle SuperSonics on Nov. 20. He twice matched his career-high of 21 rebounds, getting 22 points and 21 boards in a 98-96 victory over San Antonio on Nov. 6 and posting 27 points, 21 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals in a 131-110 victory over Philadelphia on April 14...Webber had a pair of triple-doubles, both against his former team, the Golden State Warriors, to bring his career total to seven...He had 19 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, adding a career-high 6 steals, in a 110-102 victory on Dec. 15, and he had 23 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists in a 118-108 victory on March 1...Webber was named the NBA's final Player of the Week of the season after leading the Bullets to a 4-0 record and a playoff berth with averages of 22.0 points and 15.3 rebounds in the period ending April 20...In the three-game playoff loss to Chicago, Webber averaged 15.7 points and team-highs of 8.0 rebounds and 2.33 blocks per game, shooting .633 from the field. His field goal percentage was the highest of all playoff participants.

1995-1996
Shoulder problems all but shelved Webber for the season, limiting him to just 15 games in his third pro campaign. The Bullets were 9-6 with Webber in the lineup as he averaged a team-high 23.7 points plus 7.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.80 steals in 37.2 minutes per game when he was able to play...Webber suffered a dislocated left shoulder in a preseason game against Indiana on October 21 and opened the season on the injured list. He was activated on Nov. 27, but strained his shoulder against New York on Dec. 29. After hoping the injury would get better with rest, Webber finally underwent surgery on Feb. 1 which sidelined him for the remainder of the season...Webber scored a career-high 40 points and dished out 10 assists against Golden State on Dec. 27, just two nights before he reinjured his shoulder while playing 44 minutes against New York.

1994-1995
Webber began the 1994-95 season amid the controversy and publicity of a big trade, drifted out of the limelight with a weak Washington team, and finished with a strong string of games. The saga began when Webber, the 1993-94 NBA Rookie of the Year, refused to report to training camp with Golden State, citing a personality conflict with Warriors Coach Don Nelson and asking for a trade. Webber also exercised a clause in his contract that allowed him to become a restricted free agent...When differences between Webber and Nelson couldn t be settled, the Warriors traded the young player to Washington on November 17 in exchange for forward Tom Gugliotta and three first-round draft picks. One of the biggest trades of the season, the transaction reunited Webber with rookie forward Juwan Howard, his college teammate from the Fab Five Michigan squad...After his 9-point debut with the Bullets, Webber scored in double figures in every game in 1994-95, but it took a few months before he was at the top of his game. Playing with new teammates and without the benefit of training camp, Webber began slowly and then separated his shoulder and missed 19 games from December 23 to February 1...In the final third of the season, however, he was one of the best all-around players in basketball. He averaged 19.9 points and 8.9 rebounds in February and regularly logged double-doubles in points and rebounds. He had 23 of those in 54 games. On March 24 Webber burned the Los Angeles Lakers with 31 points, 13 rebounds, and 11 assists. He pulled another triple-double against the Charlotte Hornets on April 7 and one more against the Orlando Magic on April 19. Of the 27 triple-doubles recorded in the NBA in 1994-95, Webber had 3...He finished the season with team-high averages of 20.1 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. He also dished out 4.7 assists per contest while shooting .495 from the field. But Webber experienced few victories with the 1994-95 Bullets, who suffered through a disastrous year of injuries and finished at 21-61.

1993-1994
In June 1993 Webber became the first sophomore since Magic Johnson in 1979 to be selected No. 1 in the NBA Draft. After Orlando made him the first overall pick, however, the Magic promptly traded his rights to the Golden State Warriors for the draft rights to Anfernee Hardaway and three future first-round draft choices. It was the biggest draft-day trade in recent history...Webber joined a Warriors team badly in need of his services. Not only had Coach Don Nelson been searching for a star big man for years, but Golden State was also decimated by season-ending injuries to Tim Hardaway and Sarunas Marciulionis. Webber stepped right in and had an outstanding first season, averaging 17.5 points on .552 shooting from the field and helping the Warriors to a 50-32 record and a playoff berth. He also contributed 9.1 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 2.16 blocks per game, leading all rookies in both rebounding and field-goal percentage. At seasons end, at 21-years-old, Webber became the league's youngest player to win Rookie of the Year honors, edging out Anfernee Hardaway by a mere six votes...Webber recorded 35 double-doubles during the season, including a triple-double of 22 points, 12 rebounds, and a season-high 12 assists in only 32 minutes against the Los Angeles Clippers on December 23. Webber was the first Warriors rookie to record a triple-double since Tim Hardaway on April 3, 1990.

COLLEGE
A 6-foot-10 forward-center with a bundle of raw talent, Chris Webber left the University of Michigan after an outstanding and eventful two-year career. A First Team All-America selection and a finalist for the Wooden and Naismith Awards as a sophomore, Webber led the Wolverines to the NCAA Championship Game in both of his collegiate seasons. He posted career averages of 17.4 points (on .589 shooting), 10.0 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game in 70 contests, all as a starter...Webber was the leading rebounder and second-leading scorer in the 1993 NCAA Tournament, but he will forever be remembered for an infamous blunder at the end of the championship game against the University of North Carolina. With 11 seconds remaining and his team down by two points, Webber attempted to call a timeout. However, the Wolverines had already used their final timeout, and Michigan was assessed a technical foul. The Tar Heels went on to win the game, 77-71...A power forward with soft hands and finesse, he was rated the best player of the Fab Five, the 1991 Michigan recruiting class that also included Juwan Howard, Jalen Rose, Jimmy King and Ray Jackson. The five constituted a starting freshman unit that lost to Duke in the 1992 NCAA title game.
